Preschoolers at the Ralph Bunche Center in Cherokee County will soon have a new unit to shelter their toys from the elements.

The Soleil Tennis Club held its inaugural charity tennis tournament to benefit the school, which is less than three miles from the active adult community.

“We came up with the idea for the charity tennis tournament first, then began looking for an organization to benefit,” said Dan Byrne, co-chair of the charity event. “We met with several very worthy organizations, but after the committee spoke with the Ralph Bunche School, we just knew that was the one.” Read More→

Residents of Soleil Laurel Canyon and their family members gathered in the Soleil clubhouse on Saturday, May 15 for a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser in the name of a good cause. The fundraiser, held by Soleil Laurel Canyon’s Veteran’s Club, raised $2,200 that will help support active military, Veterans and their families throughout Cherokee County and Northwest Georgia areas.

Mementos such as military uniforms and pictures from previous eras of Veterans lined the halls of the clubhouse while Cherokee High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC color guard and drill team performed the Presentation of Colors, Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem.  George Bernard, president of Soleil Laurel Canyon’s Veteran’s Club, deemed the event as “outstanding” and praised the outcome as a huge success.

Meet Lois Farmer

A life well-lived is a life fully lived, on your own terms, with as few concessions as possible.

That philosophy has served Lois Farmer well at every stage of her life. And it’s a philosophy that stood her in good stead following her husband’s death, as she moved from the farm where she lived for decades to a new home in Roanoke’s Coach Homes Of Southwood community.

This was hardly her first new home – she and her husband had built two. But this was the first time she’d approached homebuilding and design without her husband’s support. Add to that some special needs and requirements imposed by her health, and it would have been all too easy for Lois Farmer to abandon her independence.
