Houses are going for such good prices these days, and interest rates are so low. Maybe it’s time to invest in residential real estate to provide extra money during your retirement years
Before you invest, it’s important to determine a reasonable estimate of the property’s income potential. For property that is already being leased, it’s easy enough to request documents that will show how much the property earns, how much it costs to maintain, and whether or not it has a history of being occupied consistently.
For new homes, you may have to dig a little deeper to determine supply and demand of rental housing in the area, as well as the going lease rate for homes of similar size, location and amenities. A licensed real estate agent who Read More→

Residents of Soleil Laurel Canyon and their family members gathered in the Soleil clubhouse on Saturday, May 15 for a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser in the name of a good cause. The fundraiser, held by Soleil Laurel Canyon’s Veteran’s Club, raised $2,200 that will help support active military, Veterans and their families throughout Cherokee County and Northwest Georgia areas.
Mementos such as military uniforms and pictures from previous eras of Veterans lined the halls of the clubhouse while Cherokee High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC color guard and drill team performed the Presentation of Colors, Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem. George Bernard, president of Soleil Laurel Canyon’s Veteran’s Club, deemed the event as “outstanding” and praised the outcome as a huge success.
Meet Lois Farmer
Posted by: | Comments“At each step in the design and building of my home, the Boone Homes team made it clear to me that what was being built would be my home,” Lois says, “one that’s customized to my new lifestyle.”
A life well-lived is a life fully lived, on your own terms, with as few concessions as possible.
That philosophy has served Lois Farmer well at every stage of her life. And it’s a philosophy that stood her in good stead following her husband’s death, as she moved from the farm where she lived for decades to a new home in Roanoke’s Coach Homes Of Southwood community.
This was hardly her first new home – she and her husband had built two. But this was the first time she’d approached homebuilding and design without her husband’s support. Add to that some special needs and requirements imposed by her health, and it would have been all too easy for Lois Farmer to abandon her independence.
But that’s not Lois Farmer’s style, and never has been – she was determined that her new home be a step forward, not a retreat. Read More→
Park Springs Raises Money for Employees
Posted by: | Comments
Park Springs, a continuing care retirement community in Stone Mountain, Georgia, has a strict no tip clause on campus. While the policy saves Members the hassle and stress often associated with tipping, the fund also makes it hard to show appreciation for all of the Park Springs staff’s hard work.
In 2005 the Members developed an Employee Appreciation Fund and have never looked back. Monetary donations are only distributed to hourly employees and payments depend on the longevity of the employee’s tenure and salary. Last year, the average payout was $685.81. The maximum payout was $1,260. Members distribute the money each year shortly before Thanksgiving at an Employee Appreciation luncheon.
In April, Park Springs Members held a Community Garage Sale to raise money for the fund. The event was a rousing success Read More→

Held April 30, the West Georgia Home and Garden Expo was the perfect opportunity to learn about the latest trends, products and technologies in the home improvement and real estate industries. In addition to the typical booths one might expect to find, attendees were also treated to new participants including Soleil Laurel Canyon. The Canton community was the only active adult community to participate in the metro Atlanta home show.
By participating in home shows such as this one, Soleil is going out of their way to provide seniors and active adults with more information about the remarkable community. If they go so far above and beyond expectations to reach their active adult audience, you can be certain they do the same for their residents.
