Park Springs Members Participate in Juried Art Show

Earlier this month, Park Springs members got a real treat as they traveled to Stonehurst Place for a juried art show.
Stonehurst Place is Atlanta’s first EarthCraft Certified bed and breakfast and features three suites and two deluxe rooms for guests to choose from. The artwork of Park Springs Members was in famous company: Andy Warhol, Dale Chihuly, Jime Dine and vintage pieces from Hermes and others are featured throughout the inn. Typically, member’s artwork is reserved for the Park Springs Art Gallery, so many are very excited about this new opportunity.

“All of our artists are excited about the chance to display their artwork at this unique Atlanta bed and breakfast,” said Jennifer Durham, Park Springs’ Activity Coordinator. “This is truly a wonderful opportunity for our Members to show off their artistic talents.”

Located in Stone Mountain, Ga., Park Springs is the leading continuing care retirement community in the Southeast. The 54-acre campus style community boasts a 50,000 square foot Clubhouse serving meals in four themed dining rooms daily and a 12,000 square foot fitness center with an indoor swimming pool. Wii Bowling Competition Held at Park Springs

The competitor steps in front of the lane. With a pull of the trigger he swings his arm back, aims and lets go! That excellent shot earned a “strike” in Wii Bowling!

The DeKalb County Senior Olympics are over, and Park Springs was pleased to host the Wii Bowling portion of the event in their beautiful clubhouse.

Park Springs was the perfect venue for this competition as they have a long standing and exuberant Wii Bowling League in place. Member Floyd Fawcett discovered the joys of Wii Bowling on a vacation with his grandchildren in Virginia and was hooked ever since. He decided to form a league at Park Springs which became a huge success. The current season finished just in time for the Senior Olympics. (Continued…)

Park Springs Raises Money for Employees

Park Springs, a continuing care retirement community in Stone Mountain, Georgia, has a strict no tip clause on campus. While the policy saves Members the hassle and stress often associated with tipping, the fund also makes it hard to show appreciation for all of the Park Springs staff’s hard work.

In 2005 the Members developed an Employee Appreciation Fund and have never looked back. Monetary donations are only distributed to hourly employees and payments depend on the longevity of the employee’s tenure and salary. Last year, the average payout was $685.81. The maximum payout was $1,260. Members distribute the money each year shortly before Thanksgiving at an Employee Appreciation luncheon.

In April, Park Springs Members held a Community Garage Sale to raise money for the fund. The event was a rousing success (Continued…)

Park Springs the Chosen Venue for Senior Olympics Wii Bowling

Over the years Wii bowling has grown to be one of the most popular past times at continuing care retirement community, Park Springs in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Boomers come out in droves for the bowling league. Each participant has his or her own “Mii” (Wii personality), custom designed to look as much (or little) as like the player as preferred. Tournaments are held and at the end of the “season” one of the Park Springs Members is declared the winner.

With such a robust league already in place, it’s no wonder that the community was chosen as the venue for the sport’s DeKalb County Senior Olympic games. Park Spring’s member Floyd Fawcett oversees all of the Wii Bowling activities at Park Springs and instituted a Wii bowling league two years ago after playing for the first time with his grandchildren.
